Top-25 College Basketball Game Capsules

Sun 11th, March 2012

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Kedren Johnson's three-point play with just over 90 seconds remaining gave Vanderbilt the lead for good and sent the Commodores to a 71-64 win over top-ranked Kentucky in the championship game of the SEC Tournament. Vanderbilt (24-10) closed the game on a 16-2 run and captured the SEC tourney crown for just the second time. The first championship came way back in 1951, also against Kentucky. The Wildcats (32-2) were bidding for a 28th SEC Tournament title, but instead had a 24-game winning streak halted. Kentucky hadn't lost since December 10 -- a 73-72 setback at Indiana on a last-second shot. Despite Sunday's loss, the Wildcats earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play in the South region. Vanderbilt got a No. 5 seed and will open against Harvard in the East.

Final Score: (17) Florida State 85, (4) North Carolina 82

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Since 1997, the Atlantic Coast Conference's two marquee teams had won 14 of 15 ACC Tournament titles. No. 17 Florida State knocked off both in one thrilling weekend. After ending No. 6 Duke's bid for its fourth consecutive championship on Saturday, the Seminoles took home their first ACC tourney trophy with an 85-82 defeat of No. 4 North Carolina in Sunday's final. Michael Snaer scored 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting to pace third-seeded FSU (24-9). Deividas Dulkys netted 16 while Luke Loucks posted a 10-point, 13- assist double-double for the Seminoles, who defeated both Duke and UNC in the regular season and will be a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Harrison Barnes had a game-high 23 points and Tyler Zeller poured in 19 while grabbing 12 rebounds for the top-seeded Tar Heels (29-5), who still earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Kendall Marshall contributed 15 points and nine assists in defeat.

Final Score: (8) Michigan State 68, (7) Ohio State 64

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Draymond Green, No. 8 Michigan State's leading scorer and the conference player of the year, made just four of his 15 field goal attempts in Sunday's Big Ten Tournament championship game, but earned his honors with the biggest shot of the game. Green's three-pointer with 1:35 remaining ended an MSU scoreless drought of almost four minutes and stopped No. 7 Ohio State's comeback attempt as the Spartans took down the Buckeyes, 68-64, for the conference tourney title. Brandon Wood filled the scoring hole with 21 points, Green finished with 12 points and nine rebounds and Derrick Nix contributed 10 points for the top- seeded Spartans (27-7), who secured a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with their first title since back- to-back championships in 1999-2000. Michigan State also won the national championship in 2000. Jared Sullinger paced third-seeded Ohio State (27-7) with 18 points and added nine boards while Aaron Craft had 10 and eight in defeat. The Buckeyes were denied their third consecutive Big Ten trophy and will be a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tourney.
